UNITY IS RECONCILIATION – RECONCILIATION IS UNITY

I have my own version towards maintaining “Unity” rather than “status quo” and/or “division” or even “segregation” for I have hoped that “Dayakism confederation” with become a reality one day.

WHY UNITY IMPORTANT?

To unite is to reconcile and to re-establish a closer relationship, coming back together after settling their differences.

When two people or parties are in need to reconcile, they re-establish and empower their friendship; leadership, power, strength, courage, dignity and honor.

They make up; they reunite in “Unity”. Issues are resolved, upsets are settled, things are smoothed over, and problems are straightened out and resolve amicably.

While risks and frictions are reduced, they become more focus and gain more respects, equities, spaces, advantages and benefits in togetherness.

So “Unity” has to do with the ending of conflict or renewing of a friendly relationship between disputing people or groups (such as the reconciling of the races, or political parties).

SEMOA KA NYADI KETUAI?

The failure of Dayak politics since the last 48 years was mainly due to “Semoa Ka Nyadi Ketuai”; they preferred to topple each other rather than working together towards common cause.

This simply means the more “ketuai” that work on different ideologies; the less likely they are going to succeed.

Thus they become more split, venerable, fragile and divided. Basically, this rule is just that: the more people that attempt something differently, the less competent they become at accomplishing their task.

“Enti ketuai enda dibantu tauka disukong ulih rayat, sida ketuai enda idup enda bepangkat laban nadai utai di-ulu”

Those who don’t fully understand the importance of the word “Unity” (beserakup/ begerempong/ begulai-sejalai/ besatu) often ask the question, sometimes in a derogatory way;

1. “Does Unity actually achieve anything?”
2. “Unity is not going to happen”.
3. “There is no need for Unity”.
4. “Unity is just a waste of time”.
5. “It’s better to have variety than Unity”

To me and for whatsoever reasons and/or excuses “Unity” is very important for “Dayakism” and the answer is quite simple: “Yes and absolutely”.

UNITY IS LIFE, LIFE IS UNITY

No one can achieve anything in this world without cooperation and/or collaboration or support or help of others.

If you ask any achiever, they always say that it is the teamwork and unity effort which has given them success and/or achievement.

There is simply nothing in life without “Unity”;

• No Leader without an Organization,
• No Father/Mother without a Family,
• No General without an Army,
• No Manager without a Staff,
• No Company without a Director,
• No Longhouse without an Habitant,
• No Prime Minister/CM/MB without a State,
• No YDP Agong without a Nation,
• No Nation without Rakyat,
• No Tuai Rumah without Rayat,
• No Penghulu without Tuai Rumah,
• No Winner without Effort,
• No Blogger without Website, etc

And how have all these formed?

THE EXAMPLES

Scenario A:

The day when you’re born into this world you’re already in “Unity” with your parent and then if you’ve a brother/sister, and then your cousins and/or relatives and friends/comrades.

Even God works in “Trinity” (God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit) and basically “No Man is an Island”. Without “Unity” a newborn baby would have live to become an adult and/or parent one day.

Scenario B:

I/We meet many people daily and even here virtually. Some depend on us and we depend on somebody to move ahead in our lives.

We befriend with many daily. One friend introduces us to others. We forget this kind of instant introductions and leave them in the place where you meet.

Scenario C:

A project in the office, making a film, building a high-rise complex almost all every activity in this world is the result of mutual cooperation, teamwork in the name of “Unity” efforts.

Scenario D:

Take a look at how the Malays persistently working very hard toward strengthening their “Unity” beyond politics i.e. through “Religious Value” (Islam Hidari), “Keunggulan Adat Perpatih”,”Ketuanan Melayu”, “International Islamic Networking with the Arabs world (OIC)”, “Strategic Economics Empowerment (Bumiputra Equity) and “Strengthen Malay Governing Bodies”.

Not to mention how the Chinese, Indians and how the Westerners have executively and consistently maintaining it.

WHY WANT TO DENY AND ELIMINATE OUR CHANCE?

“Unity” produces “strength”, “power”, “quantity”, “ equitability” and “capacity”. Why eliminate “Unity” when you have an option?

Failing to “Try” is like beholding “Prinsip Enda Ulih”.

1. When “success” and/or “victory” is possible only with the help of others (mutual support, in-support, networks, grassroots, affiliates and strategic alliances), how are we treating them?

2. How are we behaving with them? How much cooperation we are able to extract from them?

We never think in ‘this direction’ and/or ‘that direction’ or ‘this possibility’ and/or ‘that possibility’ can be accomplished through “collective efforts”.

We always feel that there is no need with anybody or our neighbors or our affiliates. Why should I even talk to them?

This kind of mindset simply means shutting down your own chance, opportunity, privilege, exclusivity and gain while others are seeking and pursuing them. Why?

DAYAKISM IN BIG BROTHERHOOD

When we work in “Unity” within Dayakism, ‘big brotherhood’, confederation, we have the potential to deliver and produce far greater results than any one individual and/or single party could work in isolation.

At the same time, there are some myths about “Unity” working that you need to be alert to if you are a leader.

Nobody will be ready to help you to achieve success after success; can Tan Sri James Masing and/or Tan Sri Mawan Ikom work alone? How did ‘they’ achieve it in the first place? Now, how to seek their cooperation? Think proactive – Think initiative and eliminate negative perception.

Clue: When you are expecting cooperation from others, first you have to extend your cooperation to them. Cooperation is mutual and it should come from both sides; equitable and beneficial. This kind of cooperation will help develop each other.
Helping nature breeds help: Your suggestions to your friend or others should not be aimed at personal benefits and/or commercial profits but more towards mutual benefits and long-term profits.

What to do? You should just help them with your awareness. Reciprocation is most important to attract cooperation of others. If you do not reciprocate for the help you receive, nobody will help you.

Many people always criticize others: This will resist others to help you when in need. You cannot make new friends nor old friends like you either. You cannot develop your network. Nobody will take initiative to help you, when you criticize others. Always accommodate others and accept their opinions. Never try to change others opinions. This will create rift and people will keep distance from you.

When you are expecting cooperation from others: Always think of long-term benefits. Never think of short term benefits. You have to have lot of patience to get long-term cooperation from others.

When you are expecting cooperation: You have to find out like minded people (common interest), with whom you can work and partner with harmoniously. Always help others who helped you in need. Try to find out their needs and help them to strengthen relations.

CANDID QUESTIONS:

1. Does “Dayak” need help?

2. How to help “Dayak” if they are not cooperative?

3. Should we just ignore them?

4. Should we just eliminate our opportunity to struggle for “Unity”?

5. Is “Unity” primary to Dayaks?

6. If Dayaks successfully build “Unity” within their village and/or longhouse and among the major longhouses regionally?

7. Is Dayak council of chiefs ready, willing and able to build and strengthen their “Unity” cause and struggle?

8. Should Dayak leaders head on with each other to help the general Dayaks?

9. Should Dayaks maintain “status quo” so they can be at par with “others”?

10. Has “status quo” strategy producing any advancement in Dayaks well being since the last 48 years of Independence?

If you wish to “Build A Bridge” of friendship and seek cooperation of others whenever you are in need, “UNITY” is the answer!

WHAT AND WHICH YOU PREFER?

“DISUNITY” generally promotes Isolation, Division, Friction, Rival, Conflict, Disadvantage, Disagreement, Alienation, Assimilation, Discrimination, Occupation, Colonization, Dispute, Disability, Divergence, Estrangement, Backwardness, Powerless, Voiceless, Hopelessness, Helplessness, Poverty….

My apology, it’s my personal opinion. Thank you.

UNITY IS BETTER THAN MULTIPARTYISM!
